Delivering technical documentation to mobile devices

With 3 billion mobile phones in use worldwide, providing users with the ability to get on-demand technical content in the field has never been more important. Monkeywrench makes viewing DITA standard documents on mobile devices simple.

Hybrid Learning Systems delivers Monkeywrench, an easy to use viewer for Darwin Information Type Architecture (DITA) standard documents that enables users to get the technical documentation they need no matter where they are.

A small, simple application that sits on a web server, Monkeywrench will retrieve a DITA document from a user-specified location and display it on the mobile device in a readable, easy to use format designed for small screens. No special software is required on the mobile device as Monkeywrench works through most standard web browsers.

What is DITA?

Darwin Information Type Architecture, or DITA, was originally developed by IBM and later donated to the OASIS project as an XML based method for authoring, producing and delivering technical documentation. One of the major premises behind DITA is the concept of reuse within documentation. When properly implemented, components from several different manuals can be reused in new projects by simply referencing the required content in a master document or DITA Map. More information on the DITA standard can be found at the OASIS Standards web-site.
